Gionatan Scali is a multifaceted East London-based musician, writer, and visual artist originally from Turin, Italy. Leading a music ensemble that reflects his enigmatic persona, Gionatan weaves a rich tapestry of sound, blending jazzy and alternative rock melodies with psychedelic, lo-fi, and ambient influences. With two critically acclaimed LPs ("Ride On" and "A Prophet after his Turkish Bath") and notable singles like "Perfect Town" (2020) and "Ride On" (2022) under his belt, Gionatan's work has been praised for its ethereal, genre-defying style.

"Modern Man," his latest creation, promises to be another mesmerizing addition to his artistic journey. GILZ B LIKE // INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY // MARCIA CARR // HOUSE // DISCO // BOOGIE

International Women's Day this year is extra special for Girlz B Like, the vinyl-only platform which spotlights the talent of women DJs, it also happens to be the third anniversary of us being residents at Grow in Hackney Wick.

Come down on Saturday, 8th March for a night of select Disco, classic and deeper House gems, Broken Beat, Boogie, Jazz, Gospel and other dance-a-lot pure vinyl sounds to keep you in the groove between 8pm and 3am.

West London queen DJ Dubois has been a formidable favourite at our parties for the last six seasons.  Her recent DJ adventures have seen her travel to places in South America, and the USA, and spin at numerous London spots, so it's wonderful to have her while she is back home.

We are proud to welcome new talent who we can see are sincere in their support for all that is and surrounds the culture of record collectors and the vinyl industry. For the London-based yoga and dance doyan who is one half of DJ duo selectors and collectors Liminal People, Paloma is beginning to make good noise on the street in the short time she has been playing.  Her debut set at GBL is going to hold great promise for our regulars and first time partygoers alike.

As usual, expect a sound excursion from the hostess Marcia "DaVinylMC" Carr to take us all to the highest heights in rounding off the night just right.

The Girlz B Like platform is now in its tenth year hashtag #GirlzBLikeis10 and as such we will do the most to splash out on some treats to highlight this big milestone of our journey - keep up to date by signing up to their newsletter via the website www.girlzblikedjs.com

DISCO FREAKS & FRIENDS - CHARITY FUNDRAISER FOR SHELTER // DISCO/ // FUNK // SOUL // VINYL

Disco Freaks & Friends bring their good time party back to Grow Hackney with an all-vinyl party of funk, soul, boogie & of course disco.

This time, you’ll be dancing for a worthy cause. Disco Freaks will be donating all proceeds for the event direct to the homeless charity Shelter. There’s also an option to add an extra donation alongside the ticket if you can afford it.

Special guests will be announced soon, rest assured the whole night will get you grooving.

This event will form part of one half of the Disco Freaks, Chris Davies’s, journey to the London Marathon 2025. He is representing Defected Records, raising funds and awareness for the vital services Shelter provide. The housing crisis is a national emergency and right now, millions of people are trying to get by without a safe place to call home.

The London Marathon is a huge challenge but so is the fight against the housing emergency. Being a London resident I’ve noticed first hand the increase in homelessness. According to recent government data, the number of people sleeping rough in London has increased by a significant 172% since 2010, a 32% increase from 2022 alone.

A home means everything to me so I'm joining the fight for home by fundraising for Shelter.

For more than a decade Disco Freaks have delivered tasty grooves to dance floors in the UK and beyond. On their 11 year odyssey, the vinyl duo have blitzed floors at Fabric, Ministry of Sound, Glastonbury, New York and Ibiza. They also present a show on Hoxton Radio and The Face Radio Brooklyn. On it they’ve interviewed some hot names in disco including Kathy Sledge, Adi Oasis and Joel Culpepper. As well as that, there’s remixes on Acid Jazz Records, while through Disco Freaks Recordings, you can find Chris’ new band AXNÉR who have recently collaborated with disco royalty Nile Rodgers & Chic, John Morales & Al Kent

Expect feel good funk, boogie & of course disco all played on 7" vinyl.

Entry is free before 9 PM, Early Bird tickets are £5 and general admissions is £7. Pre-sale ticket entry is before 10 pm. Tickets on the door are £10 after 9 pm.

Standing Tickets: Our tickets provide access to the standing area, allowing you to immerse yourself in the energy of the event. N'Calma Collective returns to Grow Hackney this March 2025 to celebrate their 16th anniversary! For this special milestone, they're curating a great lineup that beautifully blends Brazilian, Afro, and World music.

The night features the captivating live band SOMA SOMA from Bristol, guest DJ KAYA M, and resident DJ TIGAS spinning vinyl all night long. Don't miss this unforgettable celebration of rhythm and culture! Soma Soma is a fantastic live act that will transport you to a new world of Afro/Brazilian music and spread pure feelings of connection, joy and nostalgia.

SOMA SOMA:

"Soma Soma are an 8-piece band from Bristol, UK, who offer an exciting mix of world music styles that can only be described as their own Soma Soma sound. Driving percussion, vintage horns, and hypnotic guitar lines work together to seamlessly blend Brazilian styles (Samba/Bossa Nova/Arrocha) with Africa (Highlife/Afrobeat/Soukous) genres to create something completely new and exciting. They are able to take traditional rhythms and infuse them with a modern energy that keeps the audience captivated throughout their performances. One of the most striking aspects of Soma Soma's music is the use of Portuguese lyrics in their songs, which adds an exotic and mysterious element to their sound. Even for those who don't understand the language, the vocal performances are said to be powerful and emotive, conveying the passion and intensity of the music. Soma Soma is a fantastic live act that will transport you to a new world of afro/brazilian music and spread pure feelings of connection, joy and nostalgia".

DJ KAYA M:

Kaya M has made a great mark with her bold sets, honing in on soulful blends of rocksteady, ska, and early stepper's from the 60’s to 90’s. Each month she presents a radio show on Kane FM, and works as a keys player, as part of a studio band for the record label Room in the Sky.

DJ TIGAS:

Brazilian DJ based in London since 2017, Tigas is a world music lover, record collector and an event producer. Co-founder and member of N'Calma Collective since 2009, Tigas has developed a work that brings people together collaborating as a collective, aiming to discover and share new artists and worldwide culture. GROW LIVE: ABDOULAYE SAMB // DARE BALOGUN // TRYB // SENEGALESE BLUES // HIGHLIFE // SOUKOUS

Join us for a night of deep grooves as Abdoulaye Samb & Minnjiaraby blend Senegalese traditions with blues and jazz, joined by Dare Balogun and TrYb. A night of celebrating African rhythms and their global influence!

We’re excited to welcome back Abdoulaye Samb to Grow, Hackney! Originally from Senegal, Abdoulaye is a guitarist, singer, and composer whose music is deeply rooted in Fula and Mandinka traditions, fused with blues, jazz, and global influences. His band Minnjiaraby—meaning "the love of culture"—creates a unique soundscape of intricate guitar work, hypnotic rhythms, and soulful melodies. Having played across Africa and Europe, Abdoulaye brings an energy that is both uplifting and immersive, carrying the stories and spirit of Senegalese music into every performance.

Senegal gained independence from France on April 4, 1960, marking the birth of a sovereign nation rooted in rich cultural heritage and resilience. This day is a celebration of freedom, unity, and the enduring spirit of Senegalese people, reflected in their music, dance, and traditions. As we come together for this event, we also honour Senegal’s legacy—connecting its deep musical traditions with the global rhythms that continue to inspire and evolve. It’s more than just a party; it’s a tribute to history, culture, and the power of music to bring people together.

Keeping the party going after the gig is Dare Balogun, a British-Nigerian artist and curator, Dare seamlessly blends traditional African genres—Highlife, Soukous, and Makossa—into contemporary dance music. As a Balamii Radio resident and founder of Roots to Rhythm, his work highlights the deep connection between African rhythms and modern electronic sounds. His DJ sets, which have taken him from London’s Brilliant Corners to international stages like The Barbican and Public Records NYC, are an exploration of groove, culture, and history. Expect a journey through vibrant percussive sounds, deep-rooted traditions, and forward-thinking club energy.

Warming up the evening is TrYb, a local heavyweight selector, has taken the UK and European music scenes by storm with an undeniable energy. Her electrifying presence has graced iconic stages such as Glastonbury, where she captivated audiences, and she has had the honour of opening for global sensation Megan Thee Stallion.

In addition to her live performances, TrYb is a respected radio host, helming The Highlife and Sunshine Show on NTS and TrYb and Friends on Voices Radio, where she shares her unique blend of diasporic sounds. Unrestricted by genre, TrYb is a master of setting new levels, continuously pushing musical boundaries and making her mark on the global stage.

This event is a celebration of the global connections between African traditions and contemporary sounds. From the deep grooves of Senegal to the dancefloor energy of Afro-infused club music, bringing together two visionary artists who honour the past while shaping the future. A truly unique and unmissable night of rhythm, culture, and movement!

Entry: Limited Pre-sale tickets: £5, £7 (limited availability on DICE). Free before 9 PM, the majority of tickets are on the door for £10 after.

NOT THE USUAL JAM SESSION // OPEN JAM // FREE

A unique musical experience that breaks the mould. David (The Orbalist, Hackney Rhythm) hosts a jam that is accessible for everyone—no more pay-to-play, no more rehearsed sets. A space where synths, sequencers, MPCs, and E-drums harmonise with guitars, basses, keys, and acoustic drums.

When Alessandro Corda and David met at the jam, they immediately realised they shared the same passion for music and had similar values. Alex, a versatile musician, DJ, and producer, and a regular at London’s jams and host of a couple, offered to work closely with David. Not only did he manage the stage, but he also contributed behind the scenes, taking the jam to the next level.

Join us on the first Sunday of each month. Admission is free and safe and welcoming to the newcomer or seasoned performer. Whether you’re a keyboard virtuoso, a beatmaker, or a storyteller with a voice, this jam is for you. Bring your passion and your open mind. Let’s create music that transcends the ordinary and be part of the Not The Usual Jam and Grow musical community.

Our stage has hosted the tentative strumming of novice guitarists, the mesmerising loops of experienced producers, and the raw vocals of singers discovering their voices. From Charlie Stacey to Qoha or George The Poet, our stage has welcomed talented artists from various disciplines, including regulars: Alex Mike The Mic, Freddie Mpanga, Nico (MoorMoor), Conor Larkin, Matt Duduryn, Tom Caton, Richard Castle, Simon (Koyoka), and many others who come together to share their music experience, celebrate their progress, enhance growth, and enjoy each other - keeping eclecticism our flagship. The NTUJ session is a sandbox for sonic exploration, where David conducts, orchestrates, and brings people together. Here, musical boundaries dissolve, genres intertwine, and magic is born. Bring your instruments, synths, drum machines, unconventional gear, and curiosity.

If you’d like to take part show up with your instrument, any questions that you may have, please send them to infohackneyrhythm@gmail.com

KULA Collective brings its signature blend of community-driven music to Grow, Hackney for the first time—a collaboration that’s been a long time coming! Expect an evening of Latin-inspired rhythms, soulful grooves, and live energy as we celebrate music that moves both body and spirit.

NOT THE USUAL JAM SESSION // OPEN JAM

WAH WAH LIVE // ANUSHKA LIVE // POLLENA LIVE PA // DJ DES FRUTAS // DJ DOM SERVINI// JAZZ // DISCO // FUNK // SOUL

Wah Wah 45s returns to Grow for another freestyle, forward thinking soulful session with new signings to BBE Records, Anushka playing live, with support from rising star Pollena with DJ Des Frutas and resident, label boss and host Dom Servini.

Anushka is the collaborative name for Victoria Port and Max Wheeler. The duo first met in the vibrant club, music and arts scenes in that creativity incubating south coast town that is Brighton. With their first single, Yes Guess, gaining support from major broadcast influencers such as Gilles Peterson they released their debut album, Broken Circuit, in 2014. With major airplay support from Mary Anne Hobbs, Annie Mac, the aforementioned Gilles Peterson and others the second album Yemaya was released in 2021 - on this second record they experimented with their sound, exploring darker and more complex songs and palettes. Both albums forged Anushka's sound and production values, combining a deep respect for the UK's electronic club culture mixed with Jazz and Soul.

Now, with the upcoming release of Ancestry on BBE Music, the duo has created an album that furthers their sound, their songwriting, their arrangements and their production. Victoria's songwriting for Ancestry is influenced by her love of Ella Fitzgerald, Sampha, Jimmy Cliff and Georgia Anne Muldrow. Max's approach to the production on Ancestry is driven by his own ancestral back catalogue of music from Moodyman and Theo Parrish and further back to Larry Heard, Wu Tang Clan and the 90's electronica of Tricky, Portishead and David Holmes. It definitely bears repeating that list of influences has resulted in Ancestry being Anushka's best album yet.

Victoria also has a new solo EP coming out on First Word Records this year.

Pollena is an emerging London-based singer-songwriter on the Indie Dance scene. She's gained well over 1 million Spotify streams and 45k monthly listeners since releasing her debut single in 2021 ("The Pool" featured on BBC 6 Music by Lauren Laverne and beyond). Her solo live performances are known for an intimate energetic feel. She's backed with a hybrid DJ set (usually with one or two of her many collaborators) featuring live instrumentation and experimental vocals, and brought to life with original visuals and lighting.

Pollena has collaborated with global artists and released music through labels including Ninja Tune/Foreign Family Collective, Kitsuné Musique and Friends of Friends and her tracks frequently feature on editorial streaming playlists (Fresh Finds, New Music Friday & others) and in-store at H&M, Zara, and Mango. She garnered attention from leading tastemakers including Lauren Laverne, Sian Eleri, Giles Peterson, Jamz Supernova and Nemone. Her recent euphoric chill-house single "Repeat to Fade" with Bad Tuner, gained attention from The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music.

2025 is looking bright for Pollena with releases lined up with Laurence Guy, Gilligan Moss, El Train, and Max Wheeler the Brighton-based producer and one half of Anushka and collaborations in place with Sunflowr, Tell, Louis La Roche, Fabich, Bondax, Boston Bun, Anoraak, Love Tempo, Eric Luttrell, Dougie Stu (Brijean), Très Mortimer, Loverground and more.

With over ten years of mixing under his belt, Streatham-based DJ Des Frutas began his journey as part of the Gold Teeth collective, bringing his musical blend to clubs across the UK. Over that time, he’s supported the likes of Romare, Dam Swindle, Artwork and Horse Meat Disco, with festival sets at Parklife, Tramlines and Beacons Festival.

Each week, Des Frutas brings Worldwide Fruits to the Brixton Radio airwaves, featuring choice cuts from across the globe. Expect feel good sets filled with uplifting sun-drenched house and disco, Latin and African grooves and lesser-known tropical gems.

Dom Servini has been something of an institution in the worldwide eclectic scene for over three decades. As label boss at Wah Wah 45s for over 25 years, music journalist for seminal publications like Straight No Chaser and Echoes, and with a weekly radio show on Jazz FM, a monthly on Soho Radio and regular appearances on BBC 6 Music, Dom continues to be at the forefront of the left-of-centre black music scene. His uplifting DJ sets have taken him across the globe from Japan to Canada , from Montenegro to Australia, and right back here in London town where he was resident at The Jazz Café for over 30 years and is currently starting a new daytime event called Our Time Is Now!

Entry is free before 9 PM, Early Bird tickets are £5 and general admissions is £7. Pre-sale ticket entry is before 10 pm. Tickets on the door are £10 after 9 pm.

NOT THE USUAL JAM SESSION // OPEN JAM

SPECULATIVE REMEMORY // AUDIO & VISUAL // DJS

Join us at Grow for an evening exploring experimental project - Speculative ReMemory - which includes audio and visual work made as part of an engagement project at Alice Billing House in Stratford.

These cumulative creative contributions have emerged from a network of artists and local communities, and draws upon non-traditional methodologies, indigenous practices of storytelling and the collation of stories to create a body of work that utilises experimental formats of archival and artistic outcomes. Rooted in feminist and anti-colonial epistemologies, the intention has been to unearth the rhizomatic connective tissues between past, present and future.

Expect excerpts from the digital archive, physical representations and a chance to meet artists involved in the project.

The archive project is led by artist and programme facilitator, Sandra Falase, part of an engagement programme run by Grow Studios at Alice Billing House in Stratford, supported by the Creative Land Trust and Heritage Lottery Fund.

It's important to get moving, see friends, and bring some light into the darkest and hardest month of the year. TJT (ILLASOUL) // JOIN IN JAN // JAZZ // BROKENBEAT // REGGAE // HOUSE

It’s cold, it’s dark, and January's calling you to hibernate – but we’re here to brighten things up! With the New Year resolutions underway and the Christmas bills rolling in, we know it’s not always easy to get out and enjoy yourself.

That’s why, for the entire month, Grow is opening its doors for free, bringing you a stacked lineup of events to beat the winter slump. We’ve got cosy corners, heated and covered outdoor seating, DJs and live music, and an array of soft and non-alcoholic options for all our Dry Jan friends, so you can enjoy the party your way without breaking the bank. Make this January your time to get out, get social, and Join in Jan!

Tai, aka 'TJT', is a DJ and vinyl enthusiast born and raised in London. He’s the founder of Illasoul, a live jazz event and club night that brings together music lovers from across the city. We’re excited to have him back playing at Grow after an incredible warm-up at DeepDig last September warming up for the legendary Patrick Forge.

With a deep love for records and a knack for mixing different sounds, TJT brings something unique to every set he plays. His style is all about variety, keeping the vibe fresh and energy flowing with a blend of Jazz, Brokenbeat, UK Garage, Hip Hop, Reggae, House, and Jungle.

Whether he’s spinning at Illasoul or any other gig, you can always expect quality music, great energy, and a love for the culture that resonates through each record played.

“This January, you can expect an all-night-long journey that celebrates a very mixed bag of styles. I love mixing different sounds, so there’s hopefully going to be a bit of something for everyone. I try to create a vibe where, by the end of the night, you will feel like you have been through a clear start, middle, and end of something. January can be a tough month - New Year blues, cold weather, no money etc. - but getting out, dancing, and socializing reminds us we’re not as alone as we sometimes may think. Not only that, this night is free! So why not come out with your crew and start the year with some good tunes! “

“January can feel heavy, but that’s exactly why we need to come together, dance, and share some warmth. My all-night-long set will be a journey through rare grooves, unexpected rhythms, and soulful sounds—a chance to escape the January blues and connect with the music and each other. MOONTALK // JOIN IN JAN // DUB // ACID JAZZ // BROKEN BEAT // LEFTFIELD HOUSE // BASS //

It’s cold, it’s dark, and January's calling you to hibernate – but we’re here to brighten things up! With the New Year resolutions underway and the Christmas bills rolling in, we know it’s not always easy to get out and enjoy yourself.

Make this January your time to get out, get social, and Join in Jan!

Moontalk is an Istanbul born, London based DJ and radio host. Classically trained in piano, introduced to electronic music via trip hop and fascinated by Middle Eastern percussion, she carefully curates expansive sets through soulful earthly beats and alien basslines in equal measure. With an affinity towards risky genre combinations and bold mood shifts, her sets dance across a broad tempo range from downtempo, acid jazz, broken beat, Balearic house and left field techno to drum'n bass and breaks with frequent sprinkles of free jazz, dub, ambient, global grooves and drumworks. This summer she returned to Lost Village as a resident DJ and played at ION festival as part of My Analog Journal's takeover, marking her first international performance. She frequently plays across London venues such as Grow, NT's Loft, Night Tales and Corsica Studios. She is one of the resident DJs at Om Being, where she delves into deep and experimental ambient spectrums to create experiences of introspection and transcendence through moving meditation.

“I like to keep an open mind and look into the history and evolution of genres when I'm digging. When I curate I never stay in one mood for too long and always play with dichotomies: calm vs chaos, dark vs light, introspection vs euphoria, classic instrumentation over modular synthesis. An all night long set is an exciting opportunity for me to showcase all layers of my taste and truly delve into the journey building and storytelling aspects which I'm so passionate about and aim to bring to all my sets. We will embark on a cosmic and hedonistic sonic adventure together that will stimulate our minds as much as our bodies. “

Don’t miss the chance to experience Daniele Mizar, a Sicilian DJ and Soho Radio resident, whose dynamic sets blend his Southern Italian roots with global influences. Known for his acclaimed show Isola Paradiso, a celebration of Italian music culture from dance-floor jazz to rare gems, Daniele captivates audiences with his passion for uncovering overlooked sounds. Whether championing emerging talent or curating nights with farcorners, his performances are electric, uplifting, and culturally rich—a must-see for music lovers seeking something unique and inspiring.

“This January, my all-night-long set will blend the soulful warmth of Sicily with the electrifying energy of jazz dance music. I understand that January can be tough - cold evenings, post-holiday blues, and the inertia of winter make it hard to get out and socialise. That’s exactly why these nights and Grow’s initiative are so important. It’s a chance to step out, shake off the frost, and immerse yourself in music that warms not just the body, but the soul. From the vibrant spirit of the Mediterranean to the jazz- inspired grooves, this set will create moments that invite you to move freely and joyfully - a celebration of life, connection, and movement. Let’s start the year dancing together, let the music lift you, the rhythm guide you.” Daniele
