As part of our ongoing Grow At Home programme of online events we meet local artists who share insights into their work & practice and engage in an interactive Q&A with the audience.
We meet east London based painter Dan Coombs. Dan is in internationally exhibited artist and is currently senior tutor in painting at the University of East London. He is one of the founders of The Turps Banana Painting Programme, an independent art school located in Camberwell, South London. He has written for Turps Banana Magazine as well as the online magazine Abstract Critical.
Dan creates his compositions from studies in collage and paint, which unite his figures with entirely invented surroundings, landscape dream worlds and interior spaces. These are human encounters charged with a mysterious, symbolic power. They are explorations of guilt, beauty and fear of isolation; that draw on myth, religion and psychoanalysis in order to grasp the real within the imaginary.
This event is part of a cultural programme of events celebrating the creativity and diversity of Grow’s events programme and is supported by the Government’s Cultural Recovery Grant, administered by Arts Council England
