Bringing their genre-blurring grooves to Grow Hackney, Fraka are an exciting new force in London’s live music scene, ready to ignite the dancefloor with their high-energy fusion of jazz, afrobeat, and broken beat.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS AND DJS
A riot of rhythm, groove, and soaring melodies, Fraka are a band that demands to be heard live. This seven-piece collective fuses jazz with afrobeat, broken beat, highlife, and hip-hop, creating deep, hypnotic grooves that are impossible to resist. Lush psychedelic soundscapes meet tight horn lines and driving rhythms, making for a dynamic and high-energy show that’s built for the dancefloor.
Their name comes from fracas—a noisy, unruly clash of voices—and that spirit runs through their music, where improvisation meets deep-rooted groove in an electric live performance. With members from across Europe, Fraka bring a fresh and fearless approach to jazz fusion, and they’re the perfect band to kick off your Friday night.
Expect serious musicianship, bold sounds, and a set that will keep you moving from start to finish.
Support Fraka are Body Orchestra, this new four-piece ensemble is made up of composer and singer Vincent C Smith (Insecure Men, Muckspreader, Pet Deaths, Fat Dog, Dan Lyons and the Tenants), drummer Seb Bloom (Gionatan Scali, Bande To Part), double bassist Sam Hollis (Modern Nature, Fraszer Merrick) and violinist Beth Elliott (Kassia String Quartet).
Formed after meeting at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, the group found common ground in a shared love of improvisation and experimental sound. Their music moves between free jazz, folk ballads, and ambient noise, drawing inspiration from Ornette Coleman, Nick Drake, Tim Hecker and Swans.
Body Orchestra’s live set is dynamic and immersive, shifting from delicate textures to moments of raw intensity. One for the curious listener.
Gionatan Scali is a Turin-born, East London-based musician, activist, and visual artist. He leads a music ensemble under his own name, with two albums and an EP to date. Earlier this year, Gionatan played a sold-out show with his band at Grow to celebrate the launch of his single Modern Man, and we’re excited to welcome him back, this time behind the decks, kicking off the evening and keeping the dancefloor moving and shaking until 2am.
Alongside his studio work, Gionatan has been sharing his eclectic vinyl collection across London’s most exciting listening bars and clubs, including Spiritland, Jumbi, and Next Door Records, as well as further afield in Paris, Berlin, and Brussels. Known for his mercurial, unpredictable personality, Gionatan channels a wide range of life experiences into his creative work.
