UMEWE.jpg

As part of our ongoing Grow At Home programme of online talks with local artists, we welcome fashion designer, DJ & budding artist, Chantel Edwards for a talk and interactive Q&A afterwards.

Chantel is a South African designer of 20 years and along with her Mother and sister , she is the founder of international fashion label, YouMeeWee, a brand that is notorious for creating multifunctional clothing that uses vibrant colours and patterns. The label was founded after she took a chance on herself and leased a studio in Hackney Wick and a retail space in Spitalfields Market.

She has created pieces for many important musical figures, including Erykah Badu, Dele Sosimi (Fela Kuti), Barbora Patkova (The Heliocentrics), Casey Benjamin (Robert Glasper Experiment)

This event is part of the government’s Cultural Recovery Fund 2, administered by the Arts Council.

Arts Council England is the national development agency for creativity and culture. By 2030 we want England to be a country in which the creativity of each of us is valued and given the chance to flourish, and where every one of us has access to a remarkable range of high-quality cultural experiences. Between 2018 and 2022, we will invest £1.45 billion of public money from government and an estimated £860 million from the National Lottery to help deliver this vision.
