3 Innovative Live Stream Concerts in 2021

Expand your horizons with these innovators who are pushing the boundaries of live streaming in 2021…

2020 was undoubtedly the year of the live stream. Since the pandemic, the world’s population has been treated to live streams from creatives of all disciplines in all shapes and forms with musicians ranging from Erykah Badu to local rappers hosting IG live sessions.

We’ve seen streams from bedrooms, studios and national landmarks. One thing that’s for sure is that live streaming is here to stay!

In this blog, we highlight the most innovative live streams that we’ve hosted in 2021 that have used technology in ways not done before, and carved out niche ways to present their work, recreating the live music concert experience digitally and remotely.

  1. Parasang Live Remote Jam (12.02.21)

Parasang was a night of live improvisation pre covid, led by Iranian electronic musician Pouya Ehsaei (Ariwo/Entr'acte/Zabte Sote) and producer Harry Follett (Manana Cuba Records).

Parasang is a series of events where Pouya partners with visual artists, dance choreographers and musicians from around the world to improvise live. Their answer to the pandemic was to continue their series of events but to recreate them remotely and stream them live in real time from the homes, studios and spaces the artists occupy.

On Feb 12 th we partnered with Parasang to see Pouya (electronics/modular) perform alongside Berlin based Afro-Cuban saxophist Regis Molina, Detroit based Afro-Cuban dancer Yolanda Perez and Iranian visual artist Amir B.ASH.

2. Sense: Shiro (hosted on Bramble 5.2.21)

Audio visual collective, SENSE, who formed at Grow in 2018, presented SHIRO , a unique immersive digital experience that re-imagined nature through artistic and digital forms. The collective is led by Patricia Puertas and Xuan Sinden.

This event was hosted through the platform, Bramble, a real time video game like experience where you can interconnect with audience members and the performers whilst visiting the numerous different rooms.

Bramble, an innovation by Artery (an online community for intimate culture and social infrastructure) is in essence a digital venue that you can navigate solo or with friends. On Feb 5th over 100 people took part in the event and watched, listened, danced, chilled and socialised in the 5 different rooms.

3. And What? Challenge 360° & Freestyle Alchemy (4.3.21)

And What? LDN, the forward thinking South London Hip Hop collective and record label, used to host London’s top freestyle rap night, as well live music oriented club nights at prestigious venues across the capital and the UK pre covid.

Since the pandemic they formulised a way to allow their MCs to freestyle together live in real time, streamed on Twitch, the stream platform synonymous with gamers. Thus Freestyle Alchemy was born, an interactive live stream where audience members can request song topics to be created live on beats sent in by producers from across the world.

On March 4th they host Challenge 360°, a competition where musicians of all disciplines have 6 minutes to showcase their artistry. This event will begin with an hour of interactive freestyles where the audience decides what is rapped about, led by LeeN, the freestyle expert who was Beardyman’s touring MC for years. MCs on the night will be Charlie Dax, Caspar Grant, Alex Mike the Mic & Hughdem.
