Expect A Slice Of Hackney Wick At Grow For V&A Friday Late As They Come East for a night

On 25 October 2019 (7-10pm) the V&A moves its free flagship Friday Late event from West to East London for a night of music, performance and pop-ups. ‘This Must Be The Place’ celebrates the area’s vibrant culture in spaces across Hackney Wick and explores how artists and designers are pushing boundaries and reclaiming space amidst a constantly changing cityscape.
At Grow, we invite everyone to come and celebrate an evening of self-organised and DIY creativity with the artists and musicians who have collaborated in Grow over the years and helped shape us into what we are today. By showcasing the creative community that continues to be displaced, we hope to evoke thoughts of what it means to be part of something.
We intend to showcase the DIY creativity of Hackney Wick-based artists and musicians through a series of performances and installations. Highlights include a new AV installation by artist collective Sense, live music by Hot Dog Grrrl and the Sesame Buns, Fear of Fluffling, Franco-Vietnamese dance by artist Mai Nguyen Tri, Wild Dial Live Broadcast, The Lab, And What MCs and a new mural by artist-in-residence by Louise Loudoun.
It’s also a chance to meet some artists from Grow Studios including blacksmith Felicity Jones, ceramicists from Studio U, Manson’s Press, concrete artist Junior Phipps of Conscious Forms, Rosemary Clunie, Victoria Yum and Kompassion Kumbucha. From 11pm, Grow will be hosting our own afterparty with one of Hackney Wick's most undercover DJs draws on his large of rare Brazilian and South American collection.

For this V&A Late, we celebrate creativity and what it means to be part of something. Everyone is welcome.”

Part of a series of events leading up to the opening of V&A East*. This Must Be The Place seeks to explore the ways in which creative communities in London and beyond respond to changing cityscapes, with a particular focus on the ongoing development of east London.”
*V&A East will join London College of Fashion, UCL, the BBC, Sadler’s Wells and the Smithsonian Institution as part of East Bank – a new arts, education and innovation hub in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
About V&A Friday Late
The original contemporary late-night museum event V&A Friday Late is held on the last Friday of the month (except May and December). Established in 1999 Friday Late programme celebrates all aspects of contemporary visual culture using the V&A collection and buildings as its inspiration. The events bring audiences face-to-face with leading and emerging artists and designers through live performance, film, installation, debate, DJs and late-night exhibition openings.
