Jonny Liebeck’s genre-defying jazz journey returns canal-side to GROW Hackney on Wednesday 14th May, blending classic influences with contemporary sounds for an unforgettable night.
ABOUT THE BAND
Pianist, composer, and bandleader Jonny Liebeck returns to Grow Hackney with his quintet for a night of genre-blending jazz, soul, and electronic grooves. Known for his distinctive fusion of jazz, funk, house, jungle, and breakbeat, Jonny’s music bridges the gap between traditional and contemporary sounds, creating a fresh and dynamic experience.
"Grow has always been a warm, welcoming place for me to play jazz. In 2019, the Wednesday jazz jam was like my Friday night out, and in recent times I've been putting on yearly shows there with my band. I'm looking forward to returning this May." – Jonny Liebeck
Fresh off the release of his latest project, Influences EP, Jonny leads an all-star band featuring some of London’s most exciting young musicians:
Band Line-Up:
Piano/Keyboard – Jonny Liebeck

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and alumni of Tomorrow’s Warriors, Donovan’s musicianship has taken him to prestigious London jazz venues like Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café, The Vortex, and Pizza Express in Soho and Holborn. He has also performed at renowned festivals such as the EFG London Jazz Festival, Pitchfork Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, We Out Here Festival, and Brainchild.

Trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, Owen received an MMus in Jazz Performance, studying under Hannes Riepler and Mike Outram. He performs across London and internationally with a diverse range of artists. Owen is currently focused on writing music for an upcoming album and gigging across London and the UK.

A versatile upright and electric bass player, Ezekiel seamlessly blends jazz, funk, and Afrobeat, creating captivating grooves. Known for his dynamic performances, he has worked with artists like Mansur Brown, Tara Lily, Anjelo Dison, Rick Leon James, and Jas Kayser. His technical skill and creativity make him a standout figure in contemporary music.
Drums – Filippo Galli
Filippo Galli is a London-based drummer with a diverse musical background that spans jazz, electronic music, rock, and pop. Born and raised in Italy, he did not pursue formal academic education until moving to London in 2015, where he earned an MMus in Popular Music Performance from UEL and a Master's in Music Composition for Film from UWL. In recent years, Filippo has performed at some of London’s finest venues, including the Roundhouse, the Jazz Café, and Ronnie Scott's.
"Jonny Liebeck is a jazz musician who dares to do things differently. His range of influences is probably unique. There is almost certainly no other musician on the London music scene (as lively, diverse, and open to new ideas as it is) who has found such instinctively musical ways to combine jazz and electronic dance music. It is almost as if he is creating a new art form." – Sebastian Scotney, London Jazz News
